ABOUT US
UMHA: Spread Sustainable Solutions throughout Africa
The UMHA foundation was founded in 2007 by former African refugees living in the city of Groningen in the north of the Netherlands. Since the beginning we have been working with African born project coordinators for them to present a healthier and more resilient way of life to their regional African communities by means of training and technology. With innovative and sustainable equipment communities can benefit from natural resources in Africa such as water, sun, wind, soil and vegetation in a sustainable and self-sufficient way, while at the same time improving their health and protecting natural life and the environment.
In a collaborative effort with African communities and organizations we work with our African born project coordinators on projects which can unlock the enormous potential of the continent.
Our mission requires entrepreneurial spirit, cooperation and technology. Promoting entrepreneurship, cooperation, health, protection of the environment, employment and the African identity and culture is essential to our projects and targeted value chains.
Our projects are about the African development of Africa. Economic terms such as efficiency, productivity and profitability come into play only sideways and only after a sustainable cooperative regional value chain model has been put into place, creating (job) opportunities, a healthy environment and regionally produced quality end products.
We want to do good by the African people, their well-being and their environment.

DRC 2011-2027
In 2011 we started in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by shipping equipment to communities in and around Kinshasa. We have been active on the ground with five UMHA projects, of which three are currently still running. The most recent projects take place in Nsele near Kinshasa, where we are building a school and supporting entrepreneurial activity in the region.

Ghana 2012-2026
Since 2012 we have been active with several project coordinators in Ghana in amongst others Karimenga in the north east region, in the greater Accra region and in Kumasi in the Ashanti region, where our current project of setting up a local artisanal factory, producing agricultural finished products is running. This factory will be started up in 2026.

Cameroon 2015-2027
Since 2015 UMHA has had active relations in Cameroon, working on a project with the Rotterdam Business school and a Cameroonian native on a safe drinking water project combined with agricultural entrepreneurship.
In 2023 we joined an Erasmus+ funded project ‘Cameroon Renewed’ (ended december 2024) with our own African born trainer in entrepreneurship, who functioned also as a bridge between the African and European culture.
With Noorderpoort College and local Cameroonian partners H4BF, FAP and SOPISDEW we are currently setting up new projects to cooperate on.
